A Team-Based Approach to Integrative Veterinary Treatments

Hello, I’m Dr. Jessi Turner, an integrative veterinarian. I am extremely passionate about the integrative services I provide (acupuncture, photobiomodulation, herbal medications).

During the 10+ years I have been working as an integrative veterinarian, I have had numerous patients experience increased quality of life. That said, this would not be possible without the continued care of their primary veterinarians. Together, we can provide clients and patients with an all-encompassing, evidence-based approach that includes the best of both practices.

Scientifically Supported Veterinary Treatment Plans

My integrative veterinary services include modalities such as acupuncture, photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT), and traditional Chinese herbal medicine. These modalities are an excellent addition to the outstanding care you currently offer.

Acupuncture is great for pain control by stimulating Endorphin, Enkephalin, Adenosine, Norepinephrine, and Serotonin release. It can reduce inflammation and help stimulate the healing of tissues. It improves quality of life and recovery times for a variety of diseases and surgical procedures, and may result in the need to use smaller doses of conventional medications like NSAIDs, steroids, and anticonvulsant drugs. It can even be used as a preventative measure in younger patients. I offer both dry needling with acupuncture needles and electroacupuncture.

Why support TCVM and PBMT with Western Veterinary Medicine?

TCVM, PBMT, and other complementary forms of veterinary medicine are used most successfully in conjunction with western veterinary medicine (WVM).

As you know, WVM excels at diagnosing and treating a wide variety of medical conditions. A veterinary treatment plan that also incorporates Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM), PBMT, and other complementary options can round out care by providing pain relief, treating symptoms, and slowing disease progression when WVM has limited treatment options or patients cannot tolerate side effects of WVM treatments. Together, we can blend the best of both worlds, working toward healthier, happier lives for our patients.

Science Supported Acupuncture and Endorphins!

Studies reveal that distinct frequencies of electroacupuncture influence the release of various neuropeptides, demonstrating significant therapeutic efficacy in managing diverse chronic pain conditions.

FDA cGMP Regulated Herbal Medicine

Herbal medications can be used as a form of daily acupuncture. The herbal medications I prescribe are manufactured at Chi University in the United States, adhering to the FDA cGMP regulations on dietary supplements. There are numerous studies on the efficacies of herbal medications. The paper at the link below provides an excellent overview: Chinese Veterinary Herbal Medicine.

Research proven Photobiomodulation Therapeutics

Photobiomodulation Therapy, or Low Level Light Therapy, works to reduce pain and inflammation, shorten healing times, improve the function of individual cells, and support organ function. The wavelengths of red and near-infrared light that are used trigger a response on a cellular level. The specific wavelengths of light used (about 600-950 nm) are appropriate for proper penetration into tissues. The proposed primary photoreceptor is Cytochrome C Oxidase. The impact of light on Cytochrome C Oxidase ultimately results in an increased production of ATP in cells. Research has shown that PBMT downregulates Inflammatory Cytokines and Nitrosative Stress (by reducing Nitric Oxide) and upregulates Anti-Inflammatory Cytokines. I use both LED and a Class 3b Laser, both from Thor Laser

Partnership Highlight

“Dr Jessi Turner has worked with a number of my patients and has achieved incredible results for a wide variety of health conditions. I credit her work to keeping a chronic kidney disease cat from needing erythropoietin- after starting laser and acupuncture, we were able to increase this anemic cat with iris stage 4 cat's hematocrit by 5 points and she continued to do well for a long time. She has done wonders for a huge number of my senior patients with arthritis and back pain, and has worked with many of my palliative care patients for cancerous conditions. My own dog is getting older and I've reached out to her for a visit to help with his joint comfort. She has an excellent bedside manner that my clients deeply appreciate and works wonders with our mutual patients. I strongly recommend her services to owners and referring vets!”
